What is Yellow Fever?

A serious viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes in tropical regions of Africa and South America

Viral Infection

Caused by a virus transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes or Haemagogus mosquitoes, primarily found in tropical regions of Africa and South America.

Serious Symptoms

Symptoms include fever, headache, jaundice (yellowing of skin), muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting. Severe cases can cause organ failure.

No Cure, But Preventable

There's no specific treatment for yellow fever, but the vaccine provides excellent protection. A single dose offers lifetime immunity.

Book 10 Days Before Travel

Vaccine must be given at least 10 days before travel to allow immunity to develop. Certificate becomes valid after 10 days.

Mild Side Effects

Usually mild: soreness at injection site, headache, or low-grade fever for 1-2 days. Most people feel fine.

Lifetime Certificate Validity

Valid for life under WHO guidelines. However, some countries may have specific requirements—we'll advise based on your destination.

Age 9 Months & Older

Suitable for travellers aged 9 months and older. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Private Vaccination

Not available on the NHS. Private fee includes vaccine, administration, and official certificate.

For most people, the yellow fever certificate is valid for life following a single dose. This is the WHO standard since 2016. However, some individuals may need a booster—we'll advise based on your circumstances.

Yellow fever vaccination must be given at least 10 days before travel. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. We recommend booking as early as possible to ensure you're protected before your departure.

Yellow fever vaccination is not available on the NHS. The private fee includes the vaccine, administration by our qualified pharmacist, and your official International Certificate of Vaccination. We'll provide full pricing during your consultation with no hidden fees.
